
PURPOSE OF THE COURSE :
The Church On the Rock Theological Seminary (COTRTS) M. Th. Program in Religion and Philosophy (MTHR) is a research oriented academic course. It focuses on the study of various religions, their philosophies, and interdisciplinary approaches in the study of religions, including specific modules on the Religions like Hinduism, Islam, Buddhism, Jainism, and Sikhism, and Primal Religions. The program is structured for Masters Level and it will facilitate the learners to become aware of the conceptual and theoretical understanding of the relationship between religion and society. It presents the basic social philosophies of different institutional and non-institutional religions and discusses their changing nature in contemporary times with special reference to India.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Each applicant should have a Master of Divinity from ATA or BD from Senate of Serampore or an equivalent degree from a recognized college or university with a B grade average.
- English proficiency is essential in the area of oral, aural and writing skill.
- Qualifying entrance exams of the institution is mandatory for all candidates.
FOCUS AREAS:
The course is designed for students seeking in-depth knowledge about the religions such as Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, Sikhism, and Primal Religions. This course is focusing on the study of philosophy, sociology, and psychology of religions and the interdisciplinary engagement with different cultures and ethical notions.
STRUCTURE OF THE COURSE:
COTRTS’s M. Th. Program in Religion and Philosophy is a 45-credit hour program with a required thesis. There are 10 Core subjects (30 credits), Research Methodology (3 credits), and a Thesis (12 credits). All classes are with a residential preference (Day scholars and semi residential mode is also possible). Duration of each module is two weeks, with classroom learning, paper presentations, class discussions, and the final exam.
OBJECTIVES:
- Facilitates the candidates to analyze the existing definitions of religions, their significance and impact upon human history.
- Assists the candidates to learn the major elements of different religions and its philosophies with various scholars’ and philosophers’ dogmatic concepts.
- Helps to understand the interweaves between religion and society.
- To equip candidates for Christian ministry with a reasonable and comprehensive knowledge of the religions and philosophies.
- Help out in building the bridges among the pluralistic community for the communication of the Gospel clearly and persuasively.
- To prepare informed leaders and academicians to teach in the theological institutions.
DURATION OF THE COURSE:
Duration of the M. Th. Program in Religion and Philosophy is two years alone with the submission of the required thesis. A thesis is typically required, focusing on a specific issue in religion and philosophy. The thesis limit is 80-120 pages (A4 size papers, 12 front size, and 2 spaces between lines) or 25000-30000 words excluding footnote, bibliography, and appendix.

Payment Methods:
Student/Sponsor can either make direct deposits from your accounts OR make a cash deposit and bring the Chalan to confirm payment at the office OR by DD/Check (Including the processing fees) in the name of COTR College of Ministries. If payment is made by NEFT or RTGS, the transaction code must be submitted to the office. Application and Prospectus fees are to be paid during the request. Students should clear all fees and dues in full before the final examination. The College reserves the right to revise the fee structure as and when considered necessary.
Special Fee Discount
Students who pay the full fee for the academic year before July 10, 2026, will receive a 5% discount.
